Free rides for reproductive care appointments

If you need transportation to get to a reproductive care appointment in Madison County, we will book you a car for free.
Reproductive care related appointments include:
  • prenatal and postpartum doctor's appointments
  • appointments related to gender affirming care
  • prenatal and postpartum doctor's appointments
  • routine OB-gyn appointments
  • dentist appointments for pregnant people
  • appointments for pelvic floor therapy
  • mental health appointments
  • newborn pediatric appointments
  • appointments relating to Medicaid or WIC
  • STI screenings
  • support groups related to reproductive care

We are best able to accommodate rides if we have 48 hours notice. Ride requests are only checked on Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm. Any requests put in after 5pm on Friday will not be received until 9am the following Monday.

Questions and answers

What’s your service area for rides? We fund rides for reproductive care related appointments in Madison County, Alabama. If you live outside of Madison County, but your appointment is in Madison County, we can give you a ride!

If you live in Madison County and need a ride for an appointment outside of the county, we may be able to help. Please complete a request form and we’ll get back to you.

What ride services do you use?

Most often, we book rides using Lyft. You do not have to have an account with Lyft to book a ride, but it will make communication easier. Occasionally, we book rides through Created2Care, a medical concierge service.

Can my kids ride with me?
We will do our best to accommodate requests to have your kids ride with you. We are not currently able to provide car seats or booster seats.

Can another adult ride with me?
Yes, another adult can ride with you.

Can I send a child or teen to an appointment on their own? Yes, our partner, Created2Care, offers KiddieConnect, a ride service for unaccompanied minors. If you are requesting a ride for someone under 16, please email lindsey@alabamacohosh.org. These rides typically require more time to book; please contact us at least five days in advance to ensure we can make these arrangements.

Do I have to be on Medicaid or have a certain kind of insurance?
No, we provide a ride to anyone who needs one.

If you do have Medicaid or other insurance and you need rides to multiple appointments, we will try to see if we can walk you through the steps to get your rides covered by insurance.

Will the driver wait for me?

No, the driver will not wait for you. Typically we will send you two rides--one to get you to the appointment and one to take you back home. You will be able to book the ride home when your appointment is complet

How do I get a ride?
If it's at least 24 hours before your appointment, complete a ride request form. For a ride request that is less than 24 hours out, please complete the ride request form AND send a text to (256) 800-0767 letting us know you’ve requested a ride that is less than 24 hours out.

How far in advance do I have to request a ride?
We are best able to accommodate rides if we have 48 hours notice. Ride requests are only checked on Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm. Any requests put in after 5pm on Friday will not be received until 9am the following Monday. Rides are always subject to the availability of drivers.

How far in advance can I request a ride?
You can schedule rides up to 60 days in advance.

What counts as a reproductive care related appointment?
Reproductive care related appointments include prenatal and postpartum doctor’s appointments, appointments related to gender affirming care, routine OB-gyn appointments, dentist appointments for pregnant people, appointments for pelvic floor therapy, mental health appointments, newborn pediatric appointments, appointments relating to Medicaid or WIC, STI screenings, support groups related to reproductive care and MORE. At this time, ACC does not cover rides to personal residences, day care, work, grocery stores or other retail, schools, or sporting even
